Unhealthy Imitation VS Healthy Inspiration – Be Yourself!

Ciao lovelies! Today I want to talk seriously about the difference between unhealthy imitation and healthy inspiration, why this difference matters, and, most importantly, that you should always stay true to yourself.

To begin let’s talk definitions. Specifically, what is “imitation”?

Imitation is when you are copying someone else on purpose in order to be like them. Imitation can be as simple as copying someone’s personal style, or can get extreme, like people who get plastic surgery to look like a celebrity.

At some point in time, everyone has taken part in Imitation. Whether that’s through following a fashion trend started by a celebrity, or something more extreme.

Today we’re talking about when imitation gets unhealthy, and how imitation is different from inspiration.

How can you know when imitation gets unhealthy?

Imitation is unhealthy when you’re losing your own personality for the sake of being like someone else. It’s one thing to follow something like a fashion trend, but it’s another to change your whole personality to “fit-in” or be “cool.” Changing yourself and your personality to imitate someone else is very unhealthy.

What is the difference between unhealthy imitation and healthy inspiration?

When you are imitating someone to an unhealthy level, you are hiding your true self and personality.

When you are inspired by someone to make your own ideas, you are letting your true self and personality shine.

When you’re inspired by someone, that means that something they do, make, or create has given you an idea of your own. Like if your favorite YouTuber does a music video, and you get inspired to write your own song! Or if your favorite celebrity starts doing video game Let’s Play videos on YouTube, and that inspires you to do your own let’s play videos!

Do you see the difference between inspiration and imitation? When you’re inspired by someone, your own personality is still there, and your personality is shown through what you do/create. When you imitate someone, it’s their ideas and their personality that’s being shown, not yours!

Why does this difference matter?

A lot of people feel the need to imitate others in order to feel accepted, but you shouldn’t have to change yourself to make friends.

True friends will see the real you and accept you. You don’t want to surround yourself with people who only accept imitation. Why? Because for those type of people, nothing is ever enough. You will only end up getting hurt.

Be Yourself!

It’s very important to be yourself. There’s only one of you in the whole world! Make your uniqueness count.
