Ciao lovelies! Today, April 22nd , is Earth Day!
Earth Day is one of my favorite holidays, because I love the
planet and conservation! I may be a materialistic person sure, but I love
recycling, reducing waste that’s sent to landfills, and other conservation
efforts.
For this holiday, I thought I’d share with you some things
you can do to help our planet, as well as share some amazing upcycled fashions
with you all!
You can do your part to save our planet in very easy ways!
Use Reusable Shopping Bags
One of the biggest problems facing Sea Turtles right now is
the amount of plastic bags in our oceans. Did you know that a Sea Turtle sees a
plastic bag as it’s favorite food, a jellyfish? If the turtle ingests the bag
they can asphyxiate and die. You can buy reusable grocery bags at shops, or you
can make your own. Here is a simple tutorial for an easy reuseable tote:
The best part about this DIY is that you can use an old
t-shirt and stop it from being sent to a landfill!
Unplug items when not in use
You should always unplug things when you’re not using them.
Computers, printers, lamps, sewing machines, etc. Obviously don’t unplug things
like refrigerators! By unplugging these things, you can save on how much energy
you’re using.
Turn Off Lights When Nobody is Using Them
This sounds like simple fifth grader advice, but seriously.
Not only will it help save on the electricity bill if you have one, but it will
also help conserve energy and coal resources!
Recycle Whenever Possible
We all know that we can recycle cans, plastic, and paper,
but did you also know you can recycle/give back food waste to the earth? If you
have a compost heap, you can put food waste into it to turn into natural
fertilizer for a garden. Then not only are you not wasting food, you’re also
not using harmful chemicals found in many fertilizers. Did you know that runoff
from farmlands and suburban lawns
can cause red tides in our oceans? Skip on
the fertilizer whenever possible.
And now for the part I’m sure you’ve all been waiting for,
upcycled fashions! I found these upcycled fashion looks on Pintrest.
